technical assistance Program

Since inception in 2004, the Genesee Institute technical assistance program has assisted communities across the country to further the understanding of tax delinquency and foreclosure, land banking, and redevelopment strategies for vacant and abandoned property. Our technical assistance teams comprise experts from around the country, and are assembled to best meet the needs of each community. All members have practical experience working with different aspects of vacant, abandoned and tax foreclosed properties.

The Genesee Institute provides a wide range of services, from organizing community roundtable discussions aimed at highlighting new approaches to vacant and abandoned properties to more extensive evaluation of existing systems in your community. Depending on the particular needs of your community – and your budget – the Genesee Institute will tailor services to fit your circumstances. Our services can range from a one day visit intended to engage local leaders in discussion about the problems and possible solutions related to vacant properties, to a more extensive evaluation of existing systems and a series of specific policy and program recommendations and implementation plans. The Institute also provides ongoing training for government and non-profit organizations across the country regarding land banking, tax foreclosure, foreclosure prevention, brownfield financing and remediation, code enforcement, as well as other topic relevant to communities struggling with vacant and abandoned properties.
