WE'RE JOINING FORCES
Many communities around the nation have faced property abandonment before, but the ripple effects of vacancy and abandonment over the last few years have threatened decades of community development efforts and have destabilized formerly strong neighborhoods. While foreclosure and economic crisis have dramatically changed the nature and scale of the problem, the movement to overcome the complex and broken systems that keep these properties from becoming community assets has gained momentum.
To meet the growing need in America’s cities and towns for effective solutions to turn vacant, abandoned, and problem properties into vibrant places, a number of the nation’s leading vacant property revitalization advocates, including the National Vacant Properties Campaign and the Genesee Institute, joined forces to launch a new organization-the Center for Community Progress.
